May 23, 1972 - Michelangelo's Pieta Damaged: Laszlo Toth, the Hungarian - born Australian accused of smashing Michelangelo's Pieta in St. Peter's on Sunday, was charged in Rome yesterday under three articles of the Italian Penal Code. The question now was how successfully the statue can be restored. It is of the Madonna weeping over the body of Christ.
