Aug. 08, 1976 - Rudolph Valentino died 50 years ago: 50 years ago, on August 23rd 1926, silent movies star Rudolph Valentino (picture in The Eagles') died on the age 31 in New York. Although it is half a century ago now that the screen star died, his name has by no means forgotten. Presently two films about his life are being made, one in the United States (with Russian dancer Rudolf Nurekew) and one in Italy (with Helmut Berger). Valentino, born as Rodolfo Guglielmi di Valentino d'Antonquella on May 6th 1895 in Castellaneta/Italy, had emigrated to American in 1913. He started there as a dancer in night clubs and as an extra in the film studios. 1921 he got his first role in The four horsemen of the apocalypse and then became the famous by films like The sheikh, The son of the sheikh the lady with the camellias, The Eangle etc. being the idol of the female filmgoers of that time
