Sep. 09, 1975 - It is very special band'.. which is seen playing here; the Spitzweg Sextet'. The musicians are 19cmtrs high wooden figures (head, hands and feet are madeof ivory) based on motives of Carl Spitzweg. Right now, 90 years after the famouse Munich painter has died, probably an interesting item for all collectors. The painter and illustrator died on September 23rd 1885 in the age of 77. Carl Spitzwag was actually a pharmacist but he trained himself to ba a painter, portraying in his humorous - ironical manner the life of the petty bourgois and cranks of the Biedermeier age. The poor poet, The Cactus lover, The love letter and The widower are only some of the best known works of the big collection of Spitzwag paintings
