Oct. 10, 1976 - The Dirty Nappy Art Show: Artist Mary Kelly has lined up a set of her three year old son's dirty nappies - and put them on show at the Institute of Contemporary Arts New Gallery. Miss Kelly spent three years preparing for the exhibition and the 22 smudged nappies are partly the work of the son. They were chemically treated, for hygiienic purposes, and they are mounted in frames in a neat rows at the gallery in Londons Mall. Miss Kelly inisists: They are art because i say so'. Printed beneath every nappy is a list of what the baby had to eat and drink each day before that particular nappy became redundant. Miss Kelly is married to an artist and is herself an art lecturer specialising in art history and visual research. Admission is free because as a taxprayer, you will already have contributed some of the 36 million a year which the Arts Council received this year. About £5, 000 of this was given to the New Gallery to fund exhibitions. Photo shows the line of Dirty Nappies now on show the the New Gallery, in London's Mall
