May 05, 1960 - set of apostle spoons offered sale-at Christie bought-in at, 200. A complete set of very rare Elizabethan Apostle Spoon - property of Mr. James Mabon of New york- were offered for sale ac. Christie this morning - and were bought in for, 200. The spoon - known as the Firth set - because they were once owned by the Victorian Squire Firth of Bank hall, Derbyshire. There are thirteen spoons in an Apostle set - one for each apostle and on a Master or Christ spoon. Twelve of the Firth spoons bear the hallmarch 1592 - the thirteenth spoon is somewhat later.
