Feb. 02, 1968 - A Relic of the Great Days of Rail Comes Under the Hammer: 300 Railway relics - part of a collection belonging to Mr. Robert Smallaman, of Burnham-On-Sea, Somerset - were sold in London yesterday at Knight, Frank and Rutley, the Mayfair auctioneers. The least enthusiastic man at the auction proceedings must have been Sale porter Tom Kerr. While bidding was going on for Lot No. 31, he had to stand holding an old-fashioned chamber pot so that bidders could see what they were going to get. With a basin, the chamber pot was sold for 5.
