Archbishop Spyridon gives speech at Cyprus demonstration

Aug. 08, 1954 - Enosis Demonstration In Athens: A large demonstration against the British attitude regarding the Cyprus union with Greece, was held recently in Athens, when 150, 000 people gathered in Constitution Square, when Archbishop Spyridon, as President of the Struggle for the Union of Cyprus to Greece, delivered a stormy speech against the British attitude. Later, when several groups of the demonstrators tried to march towards the British Embassy, there were several clashes with the police. 24 demonstrators and 28 policeman were hurt.
