The Typist Who Found Adventure: Life behind an office desk in Pontefract was too dull for petite shorthand typist, Gwen Senior. So she set off in search of adventure - and shot herself an entire wardrobe. Now sharpshooting Gwen is back home from the Australian bush with five hundred kangaroo skins, fifty crocodiles and a ten-foot python she bagged on her travels. And she is looking for and market for another twenty thousand kangaroo skins and five hundred crocodiles she has waiting to be shipped over here. In a smart white kangaroo fur jacket and hat and snacks-skin shoes she shot for herself, Gwen - just four feet ten inches in her nylons - said: It was just the most wonderful decision of my life to throw up my office job and go out to Australia four years ago. I had an office job in Sydney at first and used to go shooting at week-ends with mu uncle Jack who came out there six months after I did. It proved so profitable that we decided to turn professional. And that is where Gwen's adv entures really began. They followed the trails north to Normanton, along the Normanton River in North Queenslanc, trekking and shooting buffalo, kangaroo, Often they shot up to 100 kangaroos a night between them. Then they turned to crocodile shooting and were paid up to three shillings an inch by hide merchants for the underbelly. It's dangerous work but terribly exciting. By day we shot crocodiles as they subbathed on the mudflats, said Gwen. Gwen, of Ackworth Road, Pontefrast, is back with her uncle, Mr. Jack Corker, of Barnsley, to open an export and import business in this country for the skins and furs they shot. He said: We have bought five hundred kangaroo skins, fifty crocodiles and a ten foot python with us. The kangaroo can be dyed any colour and makes a most luxurious fur coat. We have another twenty thousand very fine skins in Australia, ready to be shipped as soon as we find a market. Said Gwen: I don't suppose many girls can say they shot their own wardrobe. It's a wonderful experience and I would advise anyone in search of real adventure to come to Australia. We're off again in April to spend the Australian winter hunting big game.
