Jan. 25, 1956 - Opening Of New Cargo And Passenger Building At Southampton Docks: Mr. G.P. Jooste the South African High Commissioner in London- accompanied by Sir Brian Robertson the Chairman of the British Transport Commission performed the ceremony of opening the new Passenger and Cargo Building at Southampton Dooks. The new building will be primarily for the South African trade carried out by the Union Castle Line. Photo Shows: View of the Main Hall looking towards the main entrance - showing a mural painting Portuguese poem by Camoens which is a saga of the voyage of discovery made by Vasco da Gama round the cape of Good Hope in India in1497. The painting is the work of John Hutton. The room is panelled in natural Honduras Mahogany and has flanking columns of Genoa Marble
