1958 - Reconstruction of the Stonehenge continues. Fifty-two ton sandstone Column lifted.: The reconstruction of the famous Druid setting at Stonehenge, Salisbury Plain is well under way. One of the latest stones to be lifted back to its original position was a fifty-two ton sandstone Column. A sixty ton mobile crane is being used for the task - even so the lifting of this huge stone created a few anxious moments as the huge anchoring trailer of the crane started to lift about a foot inspite of the 21 tons of ballast board. Photo shows the 52 ton sandstone column is lifted by the crane and placed back in its rightful position at Stonehenge
