May 05, 1958 - Work progress on Suez Canal.: Work is in progress in many projects for deepening and widening the Suez Canal - according to reposrts by the Chairman of the Canal Authority - El Sayed Mahmud Yunes at Ismalia. He said that the number of vessels passing through after the implementation of the Nasser Plan for widening and deepening the waterway would reach 20 daily. He said that the depth of the Canal is now 34 feet against 28 feet last year - and that within two years vessels with a tonnage of 46, 000 would be able to pass through. photo shows El Sayed Mahmud Tunes explains to pressmen the plans for widening and deepening the Canal
