Mar. 03, 1958 - Restoration of Stonehenge continues. Lifting sixteen ton Lintel.: Work is continuing on the restoration of Stonehenge - by the Ministry of works at a cost of ?8, 500. A sixty ton crane was in use today lifting the 16 ton lintel of the fallen trilithon. The two huge uprights and the lintel have lain untouched since the end of the 18th century when amateur excavators caused their downfall. In addition - three stones of the outer circle are being replaced as many of the stones that were believed to have been knocked down by the Romans are being left as they were. Photo shows the scene at Stonehenge - Salisbury Plain today - as the crane lifts the 16 ton lintel. The restoration work is costumg ?8, 500
