May 05, 1959 - New Elephant Roundabout nears Completion: Work nears completion on the first new roundabout to be built as part of the new Elephant and Castle roadwork scheme - and which is expected to be called Faraday Circus. The new roundabout will help to speed the flow of traffic leaving and entering the Elephant and Castle junction to the North. It was commenced in August 1957 - and has cost about £127, 000. The triangular roundabout is flanked on two sides by Walworth Road and Newington Butts. Photo shows view of the new Elephant and Castle Roundabout today
