Oct. 10, 1959 - General Sir Richard Gale to open Pegasus village: Generel Sir Richard Gale, who commanded the 6th. Airborne Division in the Normandy Landings, is on Saturday to declare officially open, Pegasus Village, outside Aldershot - where members of the Parachute Regiment - of which General Gale is Colonel Commandment - are buying caravans by instalments from the Army to overcome the shortage of married quarters. More than 20 families are already living in the village which takes it's name from the mythological winged horse adopted by the Airborne Forces as their emblem. Photo shows soldiers wives use the N.A.A.F.I. Van until the grocer's shop in the village is completed
