Mar. 03, 1959 - Out of the cellar.... the 28year old plumber Karl Koch of Duesseldorf sees the often-mentioned and praised economical wonder'. In this cellar room (16 square-metres) he has lived with his family since 1955. When he married that time, they had a nice flat in view, but somebody else was preferred by the officials. Now the Kochs have three children. Useless were all troubles they took to get a flat. Also the firm who would like to get a flat for its very reliable and able employee was not successful in finding one. Even the Chief Mayor to Duesseldorf tried to help - without success. 1955 Koch was a healthy man, but now his ability to work is rather reduced by the rheumatism he got in the cellar-flat. His children Baerbel and Andreas these days were released of the clinic - and the same day Dagmar (born 1958) had to go into hospital. In the last letter of the authorities it said, that Mr. Koch will still have to wait a little'. 4 million flats have been built in the Federal Republic of Germany since the war, but this example shows that there is still a lot to be done
