Apr. 18 In the Center of the Sumbawa-houses here are built on stilts with trapdoora that are closed down at night, The huts have no walls-the roof slopes right down to the floor-partly, it is said, because the Donggo tribal people did not know how to construct a hut with walls, and partly so that the dust from a nearby active volcano would not have any ledges to settle on
