Jun. 06, 1961 - INSTALLATION OF FINAL UNIT OF HAMMERSMITH FLYOVER. The erection of the main superstructure of the Hammersmith flyover - started last October - was completed today with the ceremonial placing of the last pre-cast unit. This represents 81/2 months intensive effort in erecting the 16 spans totalling 2, 043 feet in length - an average of 1 span every 17 days. The flyover scheme (costing £1, 300, 000) is part of the Great West Road Improvement - the London section of which is costing £4, 300, 000.
