Jan. 01, 1967 - Strand Underpass Nears Completion. The newly designed completed Strand Underpass which is designed to cut out the strand traffic bottleneck - is to be opened later this month by Lord Morrison of Lambeth. Work started more than a year ago. The continuous strip lighting in the tunnel is said to be four times as bright as the lighting in Blackwell Tunnel.
