1970 - Headquarters of the economic commission for Africa.: A view of Africa Hall, Headquarters of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Construction of Africa Hall began in July 1959, and the building was formerly inaugurated on February 6, 1961 by Emperor Haile Sellassie I, on the eve of the opening of the third session of the Economic Commission for Africa. Conceived and designed by the Italian architect, Arturo Mazzedimi, the hall was built under the general supervision of the Ministry of Public Works and Communications of the Ethiopian Government. Africa Hall is composed of two buildings, the Assembly Hall Building and the Secretariat Hall Building, which are connected by passageways. They are situated on the site and in relation to each other in such a way as to allow for future expansion without marring the basic architectural scheme of disrupting the view
