Nov. 26, 1969 - 22 million programme is one of the most ambitious private enterprise developments since the Great Fire. The site, which became the home of the Order of St. Katharine under Royal Patronage in 1148, was re-developed as docks in the nineteenth century and was used by clipper ships. There, cargoes of tea, indigo and wine were warehoused. The site covers 25 acres of which 10.4 are water. A river frontage of 850 feet combined with St. Katharine's sample docking facilities will give London its first yacht basin. Some of the existing buildings of historical interest will be refurbished and incorporated into the scheme.
