Oct. 10, 1970 - New Type of Women's Prison For Holloway. The Home Office announced that a new type of women's prison in which the emphasis will be on medical and psychiatric rehabilitation is to be built at Holloway, London, at a cost of £6 million. The prison will be built within the present site in six stages, but the old prison will remain operational during rebuilding. Work is expected to start and to be completed by 1977. There will be accommodation for 500. There was a Press visit to the 19th. century building in connection with plane announcing rebuilding of the prison. Photo Shows:- A prison cell at the current women's prison at Holloway, London. Press visited this prison to learn about plans for rebuilding the prison. R Cell windows in the new Holloway will not have any bars but will be built to prevent escapes
