Jun. 06, 1966 - Army Coup In The Argentine: The Argentine Army today seized control of the country, ousting President Arturo Illia, and announced a military junta would rule in his place. The coup was led by the army C-in-C, General Pascual Pistarini. Actor President Illia was escorted from his Presidential Palace by an armed guard and driven away, General Pistarini announced a three-man junta would rule the country. Unofficial reports said that Lieut-General Juan Angania, a former army C-in-C would be installed as president later today. Photo shows Lieut-General Juan Ongania, who according to unofficial reports, would be installed as president later today
