Mar. 03, 1977 - United Nations Water Conference Opens in Mar Del Plata: The United Nations Water conference, the first world-wide intergovernmental meeting on problems of ensuring adequate water supplies for the future, opened today in Mar Del Plata, Argentina. Delegates from 103 countries, as well as from dozens of intergovernmental and Nongovernmental organizations, were present at the opening meeting. The Conference, Scheduled to end on 25 March, is being held in the Hotel Provincial in the Coastal City of Mar Del Plata, South of Buenos Aires. The Presidential of Argentina, George Rafael Videls, addressed the conference after it was opened by Gabriel van Leoth, UN Leather, UN Under Secretary- General for Economics and Social Affairs.
