Feb. 29 New Mexico - newest State In The U.S. Is Largely built of adobe mud. Santa Fe: America's Newest-Oldest Capital Gives Its name to a style of architecture peculiary its own: Home of Adobe Building New Mexican architecture reflects its history and culture, and is based on materials any forms indigenous to the state. First buildings evolved by early inhabitants who had lived there for unknown centuries, were of materials of neighbouring deserts and mountains. Walls were either of stone or adobe - which was cast or puddled into place in walls in stratified layers, which were then finished with smooth costing of adobe inside and out. Roofs were supported by Viges - round logs 6 or 8 inches in diameter, laid across the tops of opposite walls at regular intervals. over these were put smaller poles at right angles on which long grasses or rushes and small branches were laid closely, and over all was pread a thick layer of mud. Outside influences were later seen, such as protecting cornices of brick in ornamental pattern nand me of lime stucco. Shutters, slomder squared columns, portal parapets and wood trims were added. producing a type similar to Monterey, Calif. style, but still fundamentally New Mexican in character. During early 20th century, ancient traditional forms came into their own with realisation thatethtic values meant somethings as well as being suited to the climate. Today they are adapted o modern materials and have been called The Santa Fe Style to be seen now here else in the united It is a style trsoeable in descent in an unbriken line from aborighinak American sources
