Sep. 09, 1953 - Forty die 135 villages hit in Cyprus Earthquakes damaged house in Paphos.: Forty people lost their lives and one hundred and thirty five villages were damaged during the earthquake which hit Cyprus. Survivors said that the quake was the worth in the history of Cyprus. As with the Greek earthquake - the British Navy went to the assistance of the stricken towns.
