May 05, 1956 - Riots follow murder of Turkish P.C. in Nicosia. Shop-Keepers interrogated: Security forces had to use tear gas to quell Turkish rioting which broke out in parts of Cyprus following the killing of a Turkish Cypriot P.C. in Polis. More than 20 Greek Cypriot families were evicted and 34 shops are being closed in the main street of Nicosia as collective punishment for recent bomb attacks.
