Feb. 26 Polonezkoy, Poland-In-turkey only a few miles east of the busy waterway of the Bosphorus at Istanbul, is a relic of 19th century Poland, the village of Polonezkoy founded in 1842 by Prince Adam Czartoryski, leader of the Polish government in exile. Polonezkoy - meaning Polish Village - became a refuge of Polish veterans of the Uprising of 1830-31, the struggle to throw off the rule of the Tsar. After the Crimean War when emigre oles fought as members of a division of Ottoman Cossacks under the Sultan, more polish freedom fighters found haven at Polonezkoy, created a Poland in miniature, where their descendents still live today
