Feb. 02, 1964 - CYPRUS INVASION TEARS. MILITARY LEADER SEAS PRIME MINISTER. Following the flat refusal of PRESIDENT MAKARIOS of CYPRUS to accept the Anglo-American peace plane for the troubled island, it is reported that TURKEY id preparing the port of ISKANDERUN for an invasion force (the port is only 100 miles from the CYPRUS coast) In the Turkish capital of ANKARA, the Prime Minister ISMET INONU spent nearly two hours in consultation with GENERAL CEVDET SUNDAY Chief of Staff of the Turkish Armed Force - although it was afterwards claimed that the talks were purely routine.
