Armenia - Cyprus - Syria - Turkey

Aug. 25, 1966 - Earthquake scenes in Turkey.: Original pictures just received, show scenes from Varto, which took the full force of the earthquake which struck provinces in Eastern Turkey last Friday, which killed more than 2, 300 people and rendered 70, 000 homeless. Even houses built of stone, collapsed. Photo shows the remains of Varto's town hall, in front of it the monument to Attanturk, which remained undamaged. When the walls collapsed about 30 people were buried in the rubble. They died a terrible death- right up to Sunday night their groans and calls for help could be heard. Rescue operations proved too late - all sound ceased
