Jan. 26, 1972 - Istanbul under 15-hour curfew ? The people of Istanbul stayed indoors on Sunday during a 15-hour curfew, during which 85, 000 troops, gendarmes and policemen carried out a house-to-house search for fugitive Turkish urban guerrillas, about 260 of whom are believed to be hiding in the city. After the curfew, Genearl Faik Turun, the Istanbul martial law commander, announced that the operation had been successful. Some of the wanted people and many suspects had been detained.
