Arno Breker, German sculptor

Jul. 07, 1980 - 80th Birthday of Arno Breker.: Flowers for the birthday boy. There are surely enough at July 19th, when Arno Breker becomes 80 years old. The sculptor and graphic artist who is famous throughout West Germany and beyond, was born in Elberfeld, West Germany and a pupil of Hubert Netzer, in the early twenties he came to Paris where he met Calder and Marc Chagall and where he found recognition by Maillol and Despiau with his first works. At the beginning of the Thirties Arno Breker returned on impulse of Max Liebermann to Germany. He first settled down in Munich, later he went to Berlin where Liebermann gave him the atelier of the died animal - Breker during the second World war created a lot of great sculptures - brought him violent critic. After the war Breker returned once again for a long time to Paris; today he lives mainly in Dusseldorf, West Germany where he makes his sculptures after living models. Breker made portrait busts of a lot prominent persons such as Max Liebermann, Konrad Adenauer, Ludwig Erhard, Anwar el Sadat, Jean Cocteau and Salvador Dali
