Arno Breker, German sculptor, in his Dusseldorf studio

Jul. 19, 1975 - Sculptor Arno Breker will Become 75 : On July 19th 1975, the sculptor and graphic artist Arno Breker will become 75 years old. Breker was born in Elberfeld and was a pupil of Hubert Netzer. In the beginning of the twenties he went to Paris where he met Calder and Chagall and where his first works were appreciated by Maillol and Dspiaus. He went back to Germany at the beginning of the thirties at the suggestion of Max Lieberman, first to Munich, then to Berlin. During world war II Breker made sculptures ordered by the state - a great many monumental sculptures - for which he was heavily criticised after the fall of the Third Reich'. After the war Breker returned to Paris where he stayed a long time and is now living in Dusseldorf, where he still works up to 8 hours a day.
