Oct. 10, 1963 - Racial tension in a London suburb: Minister of Education Sir Edward Boyle last night visited Southall in Middlesex where the black population has now risen to 6, 000 one ninth of the total - and white parents have been protesting about black children being admitted to some of the schools. The parents have held protest marches and demonstrations because they say that their children are being held back because special classes are having to be held to teach English to the black children and that they are slower to learn, but yesterday the minister said that there must be no colour bar at the schools, and he refused to set up separate schools for the black children. photo shows The pupils here seem happy enough together at their painting, but there is strife among the parents
