Ashby St Ledgers Hall, Northants, Gunpowder Plot location
Nov. 02, 1966 - Where The Gunpowder Plot Was Hatched: This is the room over the Gateway at Ashby St. Ledgers, Hall, Northants, where the Gunpowder Plot was hatched. To this room the plotters fled when they were found out. The room, which is locked, still has a table and chairs used by the conspirators, one of whom was killed nearby, evading capture. Barrels of gunpowder were hidden in the vaults under the Houses of Parliament and it was proposed to fire them when King James I and his Ministers assembled on November 5, 1605. The plot was discovered and Guy Fawkes and his co-conspirators were arrested and executed
