Nov. 11, 1957 - Requested by the Russians: The Russians have requested and received British Aid in tracing the carrier rocket of Sputnick I. A cable was received asking if the world largest radio telescope at Jodrell Bank, Cheshire could help. Within six hours the satellite carrier was traced more than 1, 000 miles away and reply giving its exact position sent. Photo shows a new and night view of the giant radio telescope. It is contructed of steel and weighs 2, 000 long tons. Its reflector bowl is 83 yards across and weighs over 750 long tons
