Feb. 02, 1959 - Getting nearer the flight into the stratosphere with men: The great successes of the rocket technique lately must not deceive the fact that the problem fo the re-entering into the atmosphere still is unsolved. Experiments are being made. Soon the first stratosphere rocket with men, the X-15, will start. This is a combination of baliistic rocket and aero-dynamic flying body. The rocket will start vertically then step 2 of the rocket frees itself and the rocket will fly on in a ballistic ellipse and then go on in an aero-dynamic glide. Photo shows The projected glider by General A.D. Dr.Walter Dornberger, the former director of the German rocket experiment station Peenemuede. He now works in America.
