Apr. 17 Mercury capsule model in mace 20 airflow--Test photo, taken in Tunnel Hotshot 2 of the Gas Dynamics Facility at the U.S Air Force's Arnold Engineering Development Center, shows a NASA Project Mercury capsule model at a 50-degree angle of incidence. Test determined the stability and heat transfer characteristics during simulation of the critical re-entry portion of proposed flight trajectory. Test conditions cause airflow to become incandescent during the run which lasts for about 1/10th of a second. Smaller model in the lower portion of the photo recorded measurments for purposes of comparision. Upper and lower calibration probes are also visible. Photo shows Officical U.S. Air Force Photo
