May 05, 1960 - Flying Telescope To Be Shot Into Space: Dr. P.J. Bowen (left) and Dr. J.D.H. Alexander, two of the five-man University College, London, team who developed it, make a final check a flying telescope before it is flown to Woomera, Australia, where it will be shot into space in a Skylark rocket. Mounted in there nose cone, the telescope, built at a cost 00 to 00 (about, 500), will via a radio-telemeter send back what it is hoped will be a new ;look at space and allow examination of the part of the ultra-violet spectrum therefore unseen. the discovery of new astronomical objects radiating ultra-violet light is also thought possible
