Apr. 17 Skylab simulation: Scientist-Astronaut Joseph P. Kerwin, a member of the prime crew of the first manned Skylab mission, is seen testing on the human vestibular function, experiment M131, during the 11 day simulation of the selected days of the mission which is scheduled for launch in the spring of 1973. The simulation was conducted in trainers and simulators in the mission simulation and astronaut training facility at the manned spacecraft center. The objectives of the Skylab Experiment M131 are to obtain data pertinent to establishing the validity of measurements of specific behavioral/physiological response influenced by vestibular activity under one and zero g conditions: to determine man's adaptability to unusual vestibular conditions and predict habitabiltiy of future spacecraft conditions involving reduced gravity and coriolis forces; and to measure the accuracy and variability in man's judgement of spatial coordinates based upon a typical gravity receptor cues and inadequate visual cues.
