Sep. 09, 1961 - First German after-war rocket reaching the middle-sphere The German Rocket society started on Sept. 16th. on it's research ground near Curhaven for the first time a two stages rocket, of a 4, 60 metres length, named Cirrus (Cirrus), with a diameter of 12.5 centimetres. The rocket carrying most up to date devices reached an altitudes of about 50 000 meters and serves first of all for meteorological research purposes. Photo shows the Cirrus rocket's first stage (with inscription) and the second stage next to it, at the last assemblage, after which the successful firing took place
