Aug. 08, 1961 - Helicopter solves knotty job of removing transmitter bowl of telescope at Jodrell Bank : A wetland helicopter was used at Jodrell Bank this afternoon for the tricky job of removing a radio transmitter from the bowl of the giant telescope there. Normally, the removal of the 10-kilowatt transmitter - loaned by the USA for the monitoring of American satellite signals - would have necessitated the dismantling of the telescopes bow.
