Astronaut - Comets - NASA - Space - Spacecraft - UFOs

Feb. 02, 1961 - Scientists discover key to secrets of the Universe Nine years investigation with World's Largest Radio-Telescope: Six British scientists - led by Professor Martin Ryle (42) radio astronomers at the Mullard Observatory, Cambridge, are to announce to the world tonight that they have proof to explain one of the greatest mysteries of man - How the Universe Began. The announcement is the result of nine years probing deep into the heavens with the world's most powerful radio-telescope. They state - 1) The Universe, of which we in our solar system are but a tiny part, is expanding; (2) All matters init - planets suns - stars - huge galaxies - is rushing about into space at fantastic speed, leaving a hole in the middle; 3) There was a definite beginning. Some might interpret this as the Biblical creation. 4) The Universe will not last for ever. It is changing with time, but it has existed so far for at least 10, 000 million years. The new evidence points to the universe having originated from a colossal explosion. One massive lump of matter or several lumps packed tightly together may well have blown up scattering fragments in all directions. These have evolved to become the stars and the planets we see today. Until now many eminent scientists to adhered to the opposite view the Universe they say having been in a steady state. Everlasting as stars faded away new ones were created but the total matter in space never varied the mixture different but the ingredients the same. This theory, which clashes with the Christian precept that the Universe has a definite life span, now appears false. The instrument used in the hunt for the fundamental truth was a £50, 000 radio-telescope, whose aerials straddle several fields. Photo shows Professor Martin Ryle is seen controlling one of the sensitive receivers used in conjunction with the large radio telescope. Some of these receivers are concerned with elucidating structure of our Galaxy and some with exploring the sun's atmosphere and the interplanetary space
