Feb. 02, 1966 - First pictures taken on the moon by Russian Spacecraft Luna 9: The first pictures taken by Luna 9, on the Ocean of Storms via Jodress Bank Radio Astronomy Station was picked up today by British Scientist tuned into Moscow's space probs and produced pictures of the Luna surface showing what appeared to be Rocky Desert. Sir Barnard Lovell, Director of Jadrell Bank picked up the picture signals from Luna 9, by using their 250ft Telescope which is the largest in the World. They translated the signals into pictures by using a Facsimile Machine from a London Daily Paper. Photo shows the moon face taken by Luna 9, the Russian spacecraft
