Jul. 07, 1965 - American Astronauts For Eight-Day Orbit: Two American will next month blast-off from Cape Kennedy, Florida, in the Gemini V spacecraft, which will be in orbit for eight days-the longest manned space-trip so far. Gemini V-the successor to last months Gemini 1V two-man capsule, will be piloted by Lieutenant Commander Charles Conrad and Lieutenant Colonel Gordon Cooper, who has already done 22 orbits on his own. Scientists say the trips will try to prove that well conditioned, well-trained astronauts can perform actively over the duration of such a flight. Photo shows.
