Sep. 09, 1968 - Partial Eclipse Of The Sun: Yesterday's partial eclipse of the sun, total in certain areas of Siberia, was observed in many parts of Britain. Shortly after 11 a.m. the skies over London cleared sufficiently for a view of the sun's disc one-third obsecured by the moon. Members of the Junior Astronomical Society set up their telescope in St. james's Park. Best of them was that of ian b air, 17, of Greenway School, Uxbridge, who had built for about40 a 6in reflecting telescop of 48in focal length. With it he could project an image of the sun about 6in diameter on to a small screen. Mr. Ian Ridpath, editor of the Society's journal, pointed to the screen and said: On this excellent view the rugged mountains of the moon can be seen in ailhoutte, as well the sunspots. Photo shows.
