Mar. 03, 1970 - Total solar eclipse: To construct the approved eclipse viewer, take two pieces of white cardboard. Make a pinhole in one and, with the sun at your back, focus the eclipse through the pinhole board onto the second cardboard. The size of the image can be changed by altering the distance between cardboards. Never look at the eclipse directly with the naked eye, through the pinhole or through binoculars or a telescope. Sun glasses, smoked glass or exposed film do not protect the eyes from infra-red rays
