Jan. 01, 1971 - Apollo 14 LLTV; Astronaut Alan B. Shepard stands near a Lunar Landing Training Vehicle (LLTV) priors to a test flight at the Ellington Air Force Base. Shepard is the commander of the Apollo 14 lunar landing mission. He will be at the controls of the Apollo 14 Lunar Module when it lands on the Moon in the highlands near Fra Mauro. Astronaut Stuart A. Roosa, command module pilot, will remain with the Apollo 14 Command and Service modules in lunar orbit whilst astronauts Shepard and Edgar D. Mitchell lunar module pilot, descent in the LM to explore the Moon
