Feb. 02, 1971 - Partial eclipse of the sun: Weather on Tower Hill provided near perfect conditions for viewing yesterday morning's two-hour partial eclipse of the sun. Only part of the final phase of the eclipse was obscured by cloud. The shadow reached its maximum at 10.41 a.m. Three sunspots were visible during the early as black patches. Photo shows top picture: Christopher Laycock, 23, watched by other students as he measured yesterday's partial eclipse of the sun on an image projected through a Theodolyte with a mirror at the Merchant Navy College, Tower Hill.
