Dec. 14, 1971 - Preparing For Apollo 16 Moon Mission: Apollo 16 Lunar Module Pilot Charles Duke, operates lunar surface drill during training exercise at a Kennedy Space Centre site patterned after the Moon's Descartes area. Duke, and Mission Commander John Young, are scheduled to conduct three expeditions during their planned 73-hour stay on the lunar surface. Following lift-off from the Moon, Young and Duke will rejoin Thomas Mattingly in cunar orbit for the return trip to Earth. The astronauts are scheduled to be launched on the Moon landing mission next March
