Astronaut - Comets - NASA - Space - Spacecraft - UFOs
Aug. 29, 1981 - Iapetus is the subject of this color composit, prepared from images taken Aug. 22 when Voyager 2 was 1.1 million kilometers (680, 000 miles) from this satellite of Saturn. The northern hemisphere is in view, including the north polar region of the right and a band of dark terrain near the equator on the left. Craters may be seen in both the dark and bright regions. Some creators in the bright region have dark floors and appear to be flooded with material that may have erupted from the interior of the satellite. The Voyager projected is managed for NASA by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif
